Born in Banaras, in the state of Uttar Pradesh,
on 3rd February 1929, Kaumudi Munshi is called as "The Nightingale of Gujarat"
by Critics and Fans alike. Kaumudi Munshi enriched Gujarati Music by her lovely
voice. She got trained under famous Indian Classical Singer Siddheshwari
Devi for Thumri, Gazals, Chaiti, Hori and Zoola. She is
popular in Gujarati Community for her Sugam Sangeet, Bhajans, Gazals and Thumris.
Married to Late Shri Ninu Majumdar, also a renowned personality in Gujarati
community for his compositions and Sugam Sangeet, Kaumudi Munshi
started her career by singing Hindi and Rajasthani Geets. After moving
to Mumbai, at the age of 21, she started singing in Gujarati for All India
Radio.
